Over the Christmas break when most Westerners are involved in a frenzy of gluttony in the East it is still taken as a quiet time of year for nay business that can afford to. Definitely for the movie business as any foreign co-productions will take time off.
Luckily this year again I was able to score a small job working in an Indian TV commercial (TVC) for a range of mens undergarments......
Modern underwear that is. The thought of my handsome sexuality being used to sell traditional Indian undergarments sends shivers down my spine.
Wrestling For An Indian TVC
(Hey it's my blog and I can be handsome in it if I want.)
So I got a call to do the TVC, no audition, because the script called for a Wrestler - seeing as I am the only qualified Professional Wrestler living in Thailand (that is unless Nathan Jones is still about?) it did not take a genius to work out to call me and offer the job. Though this does not seem to stop other amateur agencies calling me and telling me to come into a casting for a wrestling character from time to time to which I just tell them to go watch the hit Thai movies I was in and that is good enough for my casting.
Arrogance? No. Practicality. Clearly if I can co-star in 2 major popular releases (plus a handful of others) then I have the acting ability to do a 30 second TVC where I share that 30 second screen time with others.
Add in that I was the Australian Professional Wrestling Champion and I had 9 years experience then asking me to come in for an audition to see if I can wrestle is a little ridiculous.
My answer is often "If you need a big guy who has acting ability and was a Wrestling Champion then call me, if you just want to look at me I'll email you some video links. Thanks."
I mean it is not hard to decide IF they do want someone who knows what they are doing, in this regard there is only one choice available in all S.E. Asia.
Anyway I went in for a day and filmed, helped direct the action in the centre ring and coached the other fellows on what to do (obviously they had no Pro-Wrestling experience) and had a good rapport with the Indian International film crew.
The final product became available via youtube the other day so here it is, though it is not much, and not very exciting for me, it was a few dollars in the pocket when I was doing nothing else - and the footage besides here, will be released in India and not in the West.
