When I first started wrestling most my opponents had been wrestling for so long that they were in their 50's...

Wrestling had almost completely died as a sport in Australia, there were about 20 guys wrestling in total and half of them were over 50.

These guys were good to work with as a rookie, they could lead the match, help me out when I got lost in the ring, talk me through and offer advice after the match.

The downside is that they did not like to take bumps, so the matches tended to be less than high flying, but since we were the only wrestlers active at that time there were no complaints.

To mention also is that wrestling had evolved over the last 30 years, just watch some early wrestling footage and you'll see what I mean. New ring technology made the rings softer to land on so that more acrobatics could be improvised. Also the abilities of the wrestlers changed as did their physiques.

Most of the old guys we wrestled had been famous and big time stars in the hayday of Australian wrestling, some even household names.

Mario Milano once came up to guest commentate a big show we had at the Sydney Easter Show.

Unlike the new kids the old hands did not let their egos get involved in the matches, that was nice too.
