Life After Westeros

Sunday, 05 September 2010

For those of you who don't know I am back in Thailand after filming my initial scenes in the upcoming HBO TV series "A Game Of Thrones" set in the mythical land of Westeros as "The Mountain" Ser Gregor Clegane.

So I have had my most recent 15 minutes of fame - how has it changed my life? What is different now that I am home?  What is life like as an International star?

My website traffic has gone back to it's previous levels, meaning there has been no significant long term benefit in this regards though with some emails still coming in every few days I'd say that I have gained some long term readers.

My life has gone back to it's day to day problems, foremost of which I am still single and with no one to share the success with except friends who are in businesss, entrepreneurs are the only ones who understand how this business works - like most businesses you need to put in the hard yards before you can start pulling a profit. I do not really have many friends with regular jobs they just don't understand and keep giving me advice like 'save some of your money each week'. Which of course only works when you recieve some income each week.

So once again I am back at the grindstone. I have some readings for 2 movies to do this week. One is a big part in a known DVD franchise, the other a small part in a BIG movie. Both beneficial for different reasons.

The bigger part in the smaller movie would give me a chance to act and show that I am capable of doing larger speaking roles and would elevate my status from big guy who can fight to big guy who can talk, act and fight. As you can imagine this would help my career enormously by opening up bigger opportunities for future work.

The small part in the BIG movie would get me more exposure as many people will see me and (hopefully) recognise me, thus giving Hollywood another BIG guy to work with. I could just be seen by someone looking for an actor like me.

Thirdly both pay money. Rather vital to survival in a non-trade based non-rural economy.

In effect nothing has changed for me, there are some bigger opportunities available now, my confidence level has increased and I can now ride horses again.

And my pay should come through soon which will take me from the doorsteps of poverty, back to having a little room to move (and possibly eat out) and a little safety net.

Oh what fun, the glamorous life of an actor.....

.... would i change it given the chance? No I am far too stubborn to do that.

Besides I do not see it being a far cry to doing 'A' grade Hollywood movies now, it may even be closer than I think, or then again it may not....
