Keeping New Years Resolutions

OK, it's that time of year again when many people make New Years Resolutions only to tell all their friends about the new them that is going to emerge this year and all the wonderful things they have resolved to do... only to break all these promises just weeks or even days later!

We have all done it, myself included, so here's how to keep those New Years Resolutions and not break them...

To make sure we keep the New Years Resolutions we must look at the first step before willpower or anything else comes into play.

Making Your New Years Resolutions

When you make your New Years Resolutions you need to first choose things that are believable to you, they have to be something that you feel you can achieve.

There is no use making the resolution that you are going to drop from 300kg down to 80kg, give up smoking cigarettes, give up alcohol and run a marathon this year. Those are good long term goals but you need to break them down into more realistic and obtainable goals.

In this case loosing 20kg, quitting cigarettes and cutting back on alcohol would be better goals. They are achievable and you will feel better making smaller victories along the way.

Many people make New Years Resolutions like this year is going to be my best, I am going to get rich this year. Again how can you aim to get rich? That isn't a goal it is a wish.... and wishes don't come true.

If you made a New Years Resolution to sell 10% more cars at work (if you were a car salesman) or you resolved to try to break your business into new markets, or you were going to stop watching TV and start a part time internet business with your spare time then these are achievable goals.

Not only are they achievable goals they are specific goals, if you have a specific goal you have something to aim for, if you sort of want to do something in that direction it shows that you really do not have the motivation. If you cannot even put in the effort to find out what you actually want what is the chance that you'll put in the effort to get going in that direction.

It is sort of like the difference between saying I am going to LA to try to make it as an actor and saying I'm going west and see what happens.

Keeping Your New Years Resolution

Once you have a believable and achievable solid goal you need to write it down someplace where you will see it often. On the bathroom mirror, on the ceiling above your bed, on the refridgerator and read it every day. Doing this with your New Years Resolutions makes them into affirmation statements

By continually reminding yourself and keeping your New Years Resolution in mind it helps you keep the motivation to achieve these goals.

With smaller goals you can alter the goal everytime you achieve a milestone, keep motivated and keep positive. Imagine what you will look like, feel like or have at the end of the road - this is what should keep you motivated along the way.

By choosing your initial goals carefully you will be more motivated to keep them. If you listen to your friends New Years Resolutions then say "Yeah, I'm going to do that too" then it is likely that the resolution will not be important enough to you personaly to actually action it and continue actioning it until you achieve it.

Find New Years Resolutions that inspire you or excite you, or things you fear. Going to the Doctors office and being told you have to lose 40kg or you will die and never see your children grow up is a great motivator. Hopefully your motivation is not that severe.

Conan's New Year Resolution

This year I am going to continue with the pursuit of my goals.

I am going to lose enough fat so that I have a full 6 pack of abdominals showing and I am going ot pack on more muscle on my upper chest, outer bicep heads, triceps, upper back, lower lats and calves.

Work wise I am going to chase up opportunities more aggresively when I get footage from Som Tam and Bangkok Adrenaline as I will thenhave some quality movie footage for my showreel with me doing some real acting roles rather than stunts or stunt actor roles.

I am going to update this site regularly and explore a few options for increasing my online income as I would like to be able to make a living out of an self automated online business and considering the amount of time I have between acting jobs I certainly have no excuse for not developing a secondary income stream.

I am going to start training with some new martial arts as it has been quiet a while now since I last fought regularly and I think it is good for fitness and for movie training to continue.

Also I want to start travelling more often and once a month I am going to start travelling in the region for 3-4 days at a time. A short flight to Myanamar(Burma), Cambodia, Issan, Northern Thailand, Laos, Malaysia or the like to get to know the area better.

As you can see I do not have any New Years Resolutions, these are continuations of last years goals which are continuations of the year befores goals.

New Years is a great traditional time for goal setting but you can do it anytime... why not now?
