Aquarius TVC

Thursday, 23 August 2007

Yet another TV Commercial (and webcast commercial) this time for the Dutch brand of Sports Water - Aquarius (owned by the Coca Cola Company).

In  the casting for this I was given the part almost completely about 1/2 way into the casting, undoubtedly again because I was the only guy in all of Asia (excluding Japan) who could have pulled this off. This caused some problems as I knew this and asked for a decent amount of money for the job, there was a big stink kicked up and then I clarified that converted to Euros the money was criminal - so I got the job and the money I was asking.

Thinking back I should have asked for a lot more considering their only other option would have been to fly out someone from Europe and pay him full European rates (plus airfare and accomodation).

Thaitanium Talk Shit Music Video And Behind the Scenes

Thursday, 23 August 2007

The number 1 Hip Hop band in Thailand is Thaitanium, I was asked to do a job cheap to help out some friends of friends who were producing a large volume of small budget music videos for a DVD collection.

Turns out this was again a good job to take besides I did not like the part and the part itself was next to useless for my career - I did meet some good people on the set.

I am still in regular contact with one of the producers who recently returned to Canada for a holiday from her permanent 'holiday' here.

Thai Cover Band

Thursday, 23 August 2007

Live music is definitely alive and kicking in Thailand, in every town you will find at least one venue that has it's local bands playing a mix of western and local covers as well as originals.

The reason I filmed this was not due to the quality of hte music but for hte fact that the lead singer was dressed and dancing more like a stripper back home - but she was better looking and talented.

Have a look for yourself...

PTT Oil TVC

Thursday, 23 August 2007

PTT is a large petroleum company in the region, for this ad I was called upon to be a rough truck racing champion.

It was a fun 2 day shoot with a night in a budget hotel down in Chonburi, near to Pattaya but without any of the nightlife - or rather a few left over relics from Vietnam days and a new modern club with local bands playing and foreigner unfriendly drunken locals.

This was the first time that I worked with Ron and Lex...

Super Crap Busker

Thursday, 23 August 2007

Next up and coming Jimmi Hendrix?

I don't know, he has the moves and the persoanlity, even the hair but the talent is somewhere still behind in the developmental stages I believe - as is his 'guitar'

This beggar works my local area - this must be his most successful gimmick as I have now seen him doing this act in several areas

Satin Mattress TVC

Thursday, 23 August 2007

This was the second job that I managed to get (after Powerkids) after I decided to pack up and leave Australia.

Satin is a well known matress company, funnily enough at the interview I was too interested in chatting with a Czech model to notice the casting agents reaction to seeing me for the first time. But I did notice the audition was very easy - do this, look like that, give me this feeling, OK.

Michael, my friend who has long been resident in Asia said as soon as she saw me her eyes nearly popped out of her head and she excitedly asked who is that big foreigner (me).

After reading through the script there was no one else there who was suitable for the part really, so I got the job...

L'Ile Aux Tresors Behind The Scenes

Thursday, 23 August 2007

L'ile Aux Tresors (starring Gerard Jugnot and Alice Taglioni) was the French pirate movie we shot down around Krabi in Southern Thailand in the islands down there, beautiful paid holiday for us in reality.

With additional filming filmed in Czech Republic  and some additional filming still to take place in England this was truly and international film. After my appearance in Thailand it was agreed that I would be invited to fly to England to film ther too - BONUS SCORE - extra life!

So I flew to England, just near Cornwall and it was heartily agreed in the 14 degrees (57 fahr) wet summer that everyone would prefer to be filming in Thailand again.

Here is a collection of videos that I filmed at the time we were filming.

Thailand Elephants

Thursday, 23 August 2007

Elephants are synonymous with Thailand, it's history and it's culture.

In many tourist areas you see signs up for "Elephant Trecking" whereby tourists are loaded onto an Elephant and walked through the jungle for the next hour.

A close friend was wanting to come to Thailand and bring his young children and they, of course, wanted to see Elephants - my frind Scott was planning to fly internally to Surin in the countryside as this area has a well deserved reputation for lots of Elephants.

He did not believe me that Elephants are everywhere so I shot this short video of an Elephant in Bangkok. Look closely at its rear end and you will see a litteral "tail" light as required by law when Elephants are about on the streets at night time.

Retravision TVC Australia

Thursday, 23 August 2007

Retravision is a large chain of independantly owned electrical appliance stores within Australia, several years ago I got a job for the instore print advertising and for a TV Commercial (TVC) for an upcoming campaign.

I was completely surprised when my agent called and let me know that I had gotten one of the 2 parts as a delivery man, not a very exciting role but a good paying one.

This particular advertising campaign surprised me even more when 12 months later the advertising agency in charge called me up and asked if it wa OK for them to run the campaign again and I would recieve another 50% of the original agreement - all I had to do was sign a release form and fax it back to them - easiest work I even had.

2 Manthing Horror Movie Trailers

Thursday, 23 August 2007

The Manthing movie was the first major movie that I worked on in my acting career. My agent called up and asked if I would like to try out for the title role in a major US film.... I asked for details and told her to tell them I would be in for my part. Which I subsequently got.

This was an interesting experience as the Producers were also on set most of the time and it was the first time I had seen a group of people working together on film in a serious manner for more than 2 days at a time.

The movie had an unofficial trailer released some time before I saw the official trailer - both versions are included here - again though I think the non-official trailer is the better version.

The Bodyguard 2 Movie

Thursday, 23 August 2007

Bodyguard 2, starring Petchtai Wongkamlao, is a Thai action/comedy film that I got called in on by Lex as a daily rate stuntman. This is one of the early movies I worked on when I entered the country and was largely unknown.

Though I am usually against working as a daily rate person (it does not help credibility) I did need introductions to the industry and this film had 3 good features that recommended it highly;

  1. Petchtai Wongkamlao (Marm, Jock Mock) is the number 1 star in Thaliand at the time of the filming, and I would get to work with him directly in a fight scene and with him directing me. I wanted to meet him.
  2. The Bodyguard 1 had been a huge success so this movie was guaranteed to get a large number of bums on seats, therefore making it more likely to be considered a success. I wanted the exposure in a large successful movie. Being the sequel to a successful film by hte number 1 star also guarantedd that a lot of industry people would be watching it.
  3. The movie was being produced by Baa Ram Ewe probably the most successful movie production studio in Thailand at the time (and still) but they have a policy of usually only working with those they have worked with before. So how do you get in the door in the first place? Take any opportunity you can. Even though I had already worked on Powerkids with Baa Ram Ewe I was largely unknown in the field.

So I appeared in The Bodyguard 2 as an uncredited stuntman, i ended up working for 2 days for little cash pay but a huge payout in that it cemented my role in Som Tam and the upcoming Hannuman movie from Baa Ram Ewe.

Following are 3 onsite videos as we filmed the movie and the final cinema cut...

Conan Stevens Showreel

Thursday, 23 August 2007

We slapped this showreel together one afternoon to as part of the presentation to investors and potential sponsors when we were trying to gain funding for the Bangkok Adrenaline movie.

I have heard some people say the showreel is crap, well yes if you want to judge it that way BUT it is very good if you judge it another way....

Did it achieve the purpose it needed to serve? Yes. Did we get funding? Yes. Did we make the movie? Yes. So regardless of what some fat armchair critics say it is a very good showreel. One thing you have to do when confronted with a critic is to ask what have they done in their life that makes them an expert so that they can critisize? Secondly the only tru judge at the end of hte day is success - did it get you what you want?

In this particular case yes, yes and yes.

Wrestling: Seven and TNT vs Everyone

Thursday, 23 August 2007

This is one of the last matches I did before leaving Australia in 2004 to go on my 3 month European Holiday. When I returned from Europe I think I did just one more match in 2005 before I quit my business and moved to Thailand.

I believe this match starts out with me as Seven vs Mark Hilton but at the end it gets a little more involved.

TNT is the AWF federation co-founder and director and currently the heavy weight champion, long time bad guy and good friend and also my wrestling partner after I turned bad (well my wrestling persona anyway - my mother would argue that I was always bad).

This is a long match and is in two parts, watch the first clip through and then the second part is ready to play directly beneath it...

7ft Thunder Wrestling Bumps Montage

Thursday, 23 August 2007

This is a selection of bumps, hits and slams mostly from my earlier days as a wrestler.

I originally cut these from early VHS recordings of my matches as 7ft Thunder so the quality is lacking a little, the cuts I have kept for inclusion in my next showreel.

This clip I threw this together due to the number of requests from people to see my early wrestling matches, all these matches will be uploaded in full in this section over time, with a 2nd DVD on it's way from Australia any time soon.

Ladyboy Cabaret

Thursday, 23 August 2007

At the Bangkok Dangerous (Big Hit in Bangkok) movie wrap party we were treated to a magic show then a cabaret show, funnily a friend had an old friend from America visiting Thailand for hte first time along for hte party.

I was talking to him when he suddenly excused himself - I want to see the show - funnily he had not shown any interest in seeing the magic show but a dozen showgirls in g-string bikinis and he suddenly went all appreciative of the arts.

So we let him drool all over the girls for about 30 minutes before we told him they were ladyboys (cross-dressers) - but he would not believe me.... ohhh well...

Techno Parade Paris

Thursday, 23 August 2007

Europe October 2004 - I was staying in Paris with some friends Anthony and Vincent - to be honest I was staying at Vincents 1/2 renovated apartment located in the heart of Paris, which was fabulous.

October in Europe, I had already travelled to Brussels, Amsterdam and Madrid - what next?

Ever since I was the University Of Newcastle  where I acquired my drinking habits and the drinking record I have wanted to go to the real Oktoberfest in Germany and not the weak marketing exercises staged by pubs and hotels in Australia.

So here I was in France just a short 4 hour drive away to the greatest beer party in the world. Upon speaking with Vincent about my plans to go he turned to me and said "People sit at tables drinking beer for 3 days straight - do you really want to go and meet girls like that? Or would you like to come to Techno Parade in Paris?"

Techno Parade? What is that? Techno Parade in Paris is 1 million people partying, dancing and having a good time through a long winding trip through the main streets of Paris accompanied by mobile discos blaring out loud techno music.

Take a look....

Showreel Daniel O'Neill

Wednesday, 22 August 2007

Daniel O'Neill is one extra-ordinary stuntman, originally trained as an acrobat then in Martial Arts and lastly as a stuntman. Originally from England Daniel moved to Hong Kong to work in action movies then after a few years he relocated to Thailand to continue working in action movies, but in a more pleasant place.

I originally met Daniel O'Neill when I was working on the L'ile Aux Tresors French movie, Daniel was a stuntman and stunt double to one of the main characters

David Ismalone Showreel

Monday, 20 August 2007

David Ismalone is a Bangkok based stuntman who originally came to Thailand to fight Muay Thai (kickboxing) professionally, after a string of successes and a very good fight record he was offered a job in a TV commercial (TVC).

Upon commencement of negotiations he was shocked to find out that for this one day of filming he would earn the equivalent of 18 months fighting in various stadiums around the country.

Needless to say David Ismalone soon after retired from fighting professionally and went full throttle into his new career. Now with a string of movie roles and  also working on The Contender Muay Thai he is very successful at this too.

I first met David at pre-training for the L'ille Au Tresors French movie.
