Carl Jung tells us that in a conversation with an American Indian Chief that to Indians it seemed that most white men had tense faces, staring eys and a cruel demeanor. He said "They are always seeking something. What are they seeking? The whites always want something. They are always uneasy and restless. We don't know what they want. We think they are mad."
What are you seeking? Are you uneasy and restless? Do you worry too much? Do you even know what you want? Would the Indians consider you mad?
If you are continually restless and worry too much then you need to learn to relax sometimes.
To spend your life in constant worry and agitation over what? Do you have a reason for this or is it "lots of little things".
If it is lots of little things that cause you to worry too much and despair then you are wasting your life unnecessarily and this article is for you.
If it is one big thing you are worrying about then this article is for you.
Did you notice that, if you have a worry then regardless of what it is then you are wasting your life. Your life is happening NOW. As you read this blog your life is happening. Something that may happen in the future is not your life. Something that happened in the past is not your life. What is happening now, things you can do, touch, see, and feel right at this very moment is what living is.
Living is actions in the present moment.
The Living Dead are those who are trying to live in the future or the dead past. Sitting in your room, fearful of all the bad things that may happen in life - you are living a life of torment. Can you afford the bills next month? What happens if interest rates go up, how will you make the mortgage? What if your partner is cheating on you?
What sort of life is that? Living in perpetual parallel hells.
Because you worry too much YOU are making YOUR life hell - it is entirely within your power to stop. If this makes you angry or indignant then it means it is close to the truth.
To break out of this "worry too much" tormented life all you have to do is stop thinking about the future. 99% of it never comes true and the 1% that does you blow up into a big deal to prove that you were right all along. Stop it.
Exercise That Helps You Not Worry Too Much
Take a deep breathe, hold it, listen to the voices in your head - as you listen they quiet down, breathe out. Feel your scalp, I bet it is somewhat tense - relax it, put a smile on your face. Close your eyes. Spend 5 minutes thinking about all the things you have to be greatful for. Your health, having a place to live and sleep, family, friends, the things you have that make you happy. Get up and go to the nearest place of nature. Go for a walk in the forest, swim in the Ocean, stroll across the fields - whatever you can reach go there and walk and feel the fresh air, look at nature living, growing, enjoy being here now - enjoy the experience of being alive.
Practise this again in your living room. Put on some peaceful music (not sad stuff or love songs) sit back and really look around you, have a good look at things in your rooom. I bet you notice things you have not noticed before. Close your eyes. Name 10 things in your room that are yellow, now 10 things that are green - you will be surprised at how few you can actually get with your eyes closed and no forewarning of this question. Now open your eyes and count how many yellow things, how many green things. Amazing. You are in this room everyday but you never saw any of this did you?
How much more of your life is passing before you without your noticing it? Relationships? Friendships? Business Opportunities? The opportunity of a lifetime might be right in front of your face if you'd just concentrate on living in the now.
Stop too worry too much. Concentrate on the present moment, what are you missing right now? What is happening around you?
Stop too worry too much about the bad things that might happen, dwelling on them won't solve anything - anyway the real bad things happen without warning. Deal with what's happening now - it is all you can do. Plan your actions to try for the outcomes you want, but be ready in the present for opportunities that arise and sieze them instantly.
And please don't worry too much, learn to enjoy life.
