How To Recondition A 2nd Hand Laptop Computer

Sunday, 13 May 2007

This is the fact sheet I would distribute to potential clients looking to purchase a second hand laptop computer, the fact sheet was meant to secure the sale by showing in detail exactly what went into the 2nd hand computers I was selling and what the difference was between a private sale 2nd hand laptop computer or some dodgy guy selling from his backyard and the reconditioned laptop computers that I was selling.

To find out the difference between a 2nd hsnd computer and a professionally restored laptop computer read on...

Stop Getting Spam Emails

Sunday, 29 April 2007

Bl00dy Heck! I am sick of getting spam email. Every 5 minutes I get a new email, let me check yes - new Spam Email!!! No, let me correct myself, I get another copy of the one I deleted 5 times already this morning.

I use Thunderbird for my email (from the old Netscape guys), it is fabulous, it has a spam email filter but it can only learn what is spam email through usage, this means that every newly worded spam email I have to identify as Spam email manually, but after about 5 manual deletions then Thunderbird will move it automatically to the spam email folder.

Next problem, I have 100 spam emails in the Spam folder now I have to go through them manually and make sure that nothing real has accidentally gone into the spam email folder.

Surely there has got to be a better way?

Yes there is...

Internet Explorer - Isn't It Time You Upgraded. Browse The Web 5 Times Faster

Thursday, 12 April 2007

I see from my log files that many people visiting are still using Internet Explorer (the blue E symbol) as their Internet Browser.

Recently I was using IE on a friends computer and I was dumbfounded, I felt like I was in the stone age. Microsoft has barely updated it since 1998...

Now I tell you how you can go to "big school" and learn about a new browser that all the techheads are using - it is faster, is exactly the same to use and much more useful....

Caring For Your New Laptop

Wednesday, 07 March 2007

Here is a care list that I wrote up when I had my laptop shop in Australia during my convalescence. Many people had no idea how to clean the screen, how to look after the battery, they did not know about shocks and bumps and the hard drive damage.

In effect I wrote a brief on how to care for your laptop and the most likely troubles they could avoid if they were careful...

13 Most Common Computer Problems And How To Avoid Them

Sunday, 13 August 2006

The "13 Most Common Computer Problems" is an educational booklet I wrote for new computer users in 2005 when I owned a computer business. I wrote this after many customers would call me up with small, easily fixed common computer problems.

I then handed it out or emailed it to customers and friends so that they could save themselves time and money - with things like this it was no wonder I was not running a highly profitable business.

13 Most Common Computer Problems is must read for every computer novice.

Purchasing a Second Hand Computer

Sunday, 13 August 2006

I wrote this booklet on things to look out for when purchasing a 2nd hand computer when I was dealing in second hand computers and laptops. There is a significant difference between buying a 2nd hand computer privately and a reconditioned computer through a professional dealer.

The professional dealer will charge more but you are paying for additional labour and warranty. The 2nd hand computer dealer will check the hardware, update any older parts, replace anything that is failing (internal fans were always high on the list), and wipe the old owners contents and re-install the Operating System on the computer as new. You would be guaranteed a virus free and trouble free computer.

A good second hand computer dealer will also load a bunch of useful free programs on the computer, saving the customer  money in the long run....

FIX For Data Is Invalid Error win2K / winXP

Sunday, 13 August 2006

On Windows 2000 (win2k / winXP) When installing new hardware or drivers you can often get Error 13: Data is invalid

You get the Error 13: Data is invalid error when installing hardware or drivers, or sometimes randomly, because Microsoft were playing silly buggers again. They were trying to force all hardware vendors to a pay a Microsoft Tax, and pay to get all their hardware drivers certified by MS, otherwise the hardware would not work with windows (even thought there was no problem). The costs were prohibitive to many vendors.

Here is how to fix the Error 13: Data is invalid error....
