Boxing Kangaroo

The Boxing Kangaroo is an Australian Icon, but besides the Boxing Kangaroo cartoons I have never actually seen a Boxing Kangaroo. It seems that the earliest known Boxing Kangaroo was called Jack and he appeared in 1891.

Being Australian I have seen many kangaroos and I do know that the Big Reds are particularly vicious.

Here is a video of a Boxing Kangaroo getting particularly annoyed I guess...

But first the rest of the history lesson...

Afterwards Boxing Kangaroos appeared in silent films that would have popularised them overseas, as one film was German, the other American.

Later in 1941 the Royal Australian Airforce 21st squadron took the Boxing Kangaroo as a mascot and stencilled it on the planes serving in Singapore and Malaysia.

The Boxing Kangaroo was again used as a national symbol when Alan Bond challenged for the Americas cup in 1983 then the symbol was purchased by the Australian Olympic commitee where is has served since.

Watch to near the end because the Boxing Kangaroo floors the husband and wife handlers. LOL
