Walking along my Soi (street) the other day I noticed one of the vendors had a new lunch time surprise added to the BBQ menu...
Much of the food in Thailand comes from the Isaan region, the North East of Thailand, they eat a huge range of local delicacies that would turn most westerners stomachs.
But when you look at them I see no obesity, I see healthy individuals with perfect white teeth (without dentists) and shiny black hair (with very few products). Compared with the western diet - which turns my stomach - McDonalds, KFC, Frozen TV dinners, 8 litre buckets of ice cream, etc.
Back to the story...
Today I had the opportunity to try :
BBQ Frogs
Hmmm.... I know French people would be excited... but unfortunately the still raw BBQ frogs looked extremely unappetising to me so I had to pass.
Though I have eaten Pad Grapow Kop before - like a very spicy stir fry with frog and it was tasty - except for having to remove the backbone from between your teeth occassionally.
As rumour has it frog does taste like chicken, but better, it tastes like really tasty chicken.
The same day I was talking to a American guy who was eating bugs and saying they are absolutely delicious - this is something else I have so far managed to avoid but will definitely try before a leave Thailand.
