Conan Style Christmas 2012

Tuesday, 25 December 2012

Well it seems Christmas has rolled around yet again, and I have pulled my finger out and am writing on my blog. Amazing.

So what does a Conan style Christmas entail?

Well it started with sitting on a tropical beach eating breakfast burritos.

How much better could it get?

Well a lunch time check of my email revealed an email from a friend in the industry asking if I'd be interested in a new movie project he is involved in, the offer was fine, the people are good, the role is likely to be interesting, and the other actors I'll be working with are well known in their market segments.

All in all a great Christmas. Now I'm off to do the ex-pat Christmas thing and heading over to a western run hotel for tons of western food and a few beers with a bunch of foreigners who also left their home countries in search of a better life.

Cheers, have fun and enjoy today regardless of current stresses.

Best Geek Beer Brand Ever

Saturday, 12 May 2012

Checking through thespecialty beers at the local supermarket today one branding stood out head and shoulders above the rest.

Being a big fan I just had to get the beer.

Which Beer....?

Not Much New

Thursday, 24 February 2011

There is nothing new that I can report, maybe in the next week or two I might have something more interesting.

But you know me, even with "nothing new" I still have a ton of stuff to write about and several thousand strongly held opinions to expound upon, and as you know my life is rarely ever boring or mundane.

Actually my life is frequently boring but I don't write about that... much...

Conan Saves A Life?

Tuesday, 11 May 2010

A friend from Australia was over so I took him out to show him the city by night, just as we were leaving a quite bar  there was a sudden commotion amongst the staff.

One looked to me desperately and asked me to come help...

Advantages Of Being Tall (Height)

Wednesday, 14 April 2010

Unlike other stupid articles discussing the advantages of being tall, like being able to reach high places, taking longer strides and other complete rubbish I am going to give you 1st hand experience of why being tall is a huge advantage in all areas of your life.

Believe me if you are tall, you better start looking at it as your greatest blessing, because as I am about to show you, it is....

Nihow, I'm In China Again

Sunday, 28 December 2008

I'm in China again, and that can only mean one thing - Yes I am filming again - FINALLY!

It's been a long time since I worked in a large part, somewhat surprisingly that was in Chandni Chowk To China, where we were filming, somewhat not unsurprisingly in China for a time.

At the moment I am not sure how much I can reveal about the movie so I won't write too much today, and I'll find out how much I am allowed to reveal tomorrow - but I am sure I can for now say I am working with a Hong Kong legend, if not THE Hong Kong legend in the film industry.

Oh yeah, Nihow is Mandarin (Chinese mainland)  for hello and it is bloody cold here, -9C to 2C (15F to 32F)

UPDATE: I am working with some ex-WWE Pro Wrestlers, some of the same guys as were in the Som Tam movie, and the Director is Yuan Woo Ping, the biggest name in Hong Kong stunts.

Oh Yeah, Happy Christmas And All That

Wednesday, 24 December 2008

Just realised it is Christmas today - already, just goes to show how much of an event it is for me here in Asia.

Since all the Western Malls and Shopping centres have been playing annoying as heck crappy Christmas carols for the last two months now (something I am very glad to miss out on), here is an Interesting Christmas song from Jon Lajoie, a Canadian comedian making a bit of a name for himself on Youtube...

UK MENSA Magazine Cover Story

Saturday, 13 September 2008

My first cover story since Drum Media in Sydney in 1998.

Pretty exciting for me, even though the Australian media dismisses me as a nobody and of little to no interest to the Australian audience as I am not on Australian TV, even though I cannot get an interview or article in Australia and no PR agent wants to represent me, those that I contacted and spoke to were disdainful and some where even somewhat condescending to me, when even some unnamed (you know who you are) management at the Sydney Dance Company outright said I was not of interest to the media....

Here I am Front cover and a 3 page internal story in a magazine that has a 24,000 member distribution....

Recently I have been getting a fair few emails from people asking me to help them get into movies it is a pretty standard format:

What To Pack When Travelling Internationally

Monday, 07 January 2008

20 Kgs of luggage allowance and months away from home - what do you pack when travelling?

Often I have seen friends packing way too much stuff in their bags when they are only travelling for 2 weeks . They bring a full backpack, a travel pack and some carry on luggage AND their laptop.... everything but the kitchen sink - just in case they "need" it.

That is too much to pack when travelling, especially when travelling to Thailand or anywhere in SE Asia. Carrying around a whole pile of crap that you do not need or use is a sure way to annoy the heck out of you when travelling, especially if you plan on getting around and seeing the country you travel to.

Here's what to pack when travelling international, or more specifically what I pack...

Australia Oct 2007

Wednesday, 07 November 2007

I spent Oct 2007 in Australia working on the return season of Sydney Dance Company's production "Berlin", surprisingly the day that I landed in Sydney it was 2 years and 1 day since I left Australia (meaning that it was 2 years to the day that I had been based in Thailand).

What had changed? How much had I changed? Did I still enjoy Australia? Would I have fun or would I slowly go insane in a non-utopian encroaching police state?

Fear Of Heights

Sunday, 14 October 2007

Are you scared of heights? Have a fear of heights? Fear of falling? Are you an Acrophobic?I was but I 'cured' it.

Funnily enough for being extremely tall I have always had a fear of heights, having the safety railings at knee height did not help matters either. As a child I would have nightmares that I was falling, I would wake up in a cold sweat many nights with the same falling dream.

Fear Of Heights? Are You Scared? I was.

So in my usual style I had to confront this fear of heights, and beat this weakness that may cause me troubles in my future stunt/acting career....

Why I Quit My Business And Moved To Thailand

Sunday, 01 July 2007

I quit my business and moved to Thailand 2 years ago. I have been to Thailand 3 times before and last time I vowed that I wouldnever return.

Yet 2 years later I sold up everything and moved to Thailand.

What possessed me to do such a thing? And NO it was nothing to do with a Thai girl...

Unpopular Geeky Kid At School To Movie Star - Build Self Confidence

Wednesday, 17 January 2007

How does one go from being the unpopular geeky kid at school to turn popularity into a full time profession? Difficult? No, not really - it just took time and effort - here's how I did it...

Big Tall People Are Not Stupid - And My MENSA Membership

Sunday, 17 December 2006

One of the constant challenges in my life has been people automatically assuming that because I am big and tall that I am stupid or simple minded.

This is riduculous, so I joined MENSA....

As An Uncoordinated Child I Knew I Had To Do Something

Thursday, 07 December 2006

As a child I was very uncoordinated, whenever I played sports I could not hit the ball, catch the ball, or just about anything sports related. The only thing I could do was swim ok, and run long distance.

When we had sports at school I was always one of the last to be chosen in a team, nobody wanted an uncoordinated nerd on their team.

I did not like being uncoordinated, and here is how I went about changing that to become known widely as being very agile for my size....

Think Your Life Is Bad? Email From Bradley And Inspiration From Stephen Hawking

Sunday, 12 November 2006

I received an email today from Brad M. from Australia, he has taken a new turn in life as before he was always depressed and thinking his life was bad.

I thought my life was bad too for a long time as a younger fellow. I could not see anyway out of my life at that point which held little hope for living the life that I wanted. But I always went to the gym, deep down I knew this was one way for me to take a small step forward everyday, even though I did not know where it would lead.

Read on, and read the incredible story of a man who cannot walk, talk or move 90% of his body yet he is one of the greatest men of all time. He is a living example of inspiration for the rest of us. Makes me feel like a fool for complaining when I was younger...

Nerve Damage in My Back - end of a career

Wednesday, 09 August 2006

No bodybuilding injury is worse than a nerve injury / nerve damage.

2000 I was training hard getting big, getting ready to go to the USA to make a crack at the big time wrestling. I was big, pumped, I had a silly haircut and I had my airline ticket - I was ready.

Thunder VS Gothic Knight (Canada)

Unfortunately I never made it......

Tall - Extreme Height - Advantage or Not?

Sunday, 06 August 2006

I am going to write this article on the advantages of being tall in the hope that some younger tall people come by and read it.

At 16 I was a very skinny tall kid, I was 6'7", 70Kg and picked on by the bullies in school. I was generally quiet and kept to a small group of friends with similar interests. I was a D&D nerd and hung out in the computer room. At that time I thought did not know there were a lot of advantages of being tall, all I knew were disadvantages...

The story behind the Conan name

Sunday, 30 July 2006

OK, so Conan is not my birth name, but I have been called Conan for years, so through English Law (and therefore Australian Law) "Common Usage" it legally is my name......

Growing Up In Newcastle (Beach)

Sunday, 02 July 2006

A brief history of Conan Stevens from 0 to 23

School in Newcastle was typical for an Australian - some kids picked on us, we picked on other kids. I got sick of a few of the bullys giving me crap everyday and is one of the reasons I picked up bodybuilding originally.

As a typical Australian teenager I spent a LOT of time at the beach, Newcastle Beach, Nobbys Beach, Redhead Beach.

After school I went on to the University of Newcastle - a whole new atmosphere, responsibility, bodybuilding, machine guns, a few lectures, bayonet fighting, and cheap beer - it was a fun time for me......
