Three seperate 'acting' auditions for me for Asian TV commercials (TVC) this week just gone.
After months and months of no Auditions (Som Tam I was called in directly for) we finally get 3 auditions in a week, obviously we are coming up to the christmas season...
One audition was as a "boxer" for a Japanese TVC, this was audition was held out at Red Modelling, one of hte most professional agents I have worked with in Thailand, and for that matter anywhere.
This audition consisted of a series of photos in varios 'fight' poses. I got the call back next day - I got the part, and being Japanese it was paying OK, next day I got a call that there wasa hold on the shoot dates as they were trying to find someone to play against me in Hong Kong. Hong Kong? Tell them my fee has gone up if they can afford to pay someone from HK to fly over and pay him in HK Dollars at their appropriate wage.
Two days later Red Modelling called again, the client cancelled this shoot - they are going to fly out to Bangkok themselves.... but we told them they have to pay 50% at this stage.
Cool, 50% of the fee for doing nothing, a very nice offer on behalf of the agent, I seriously commend Red Modelling as they could have easily kept the 50% and told me I got nothing, not professional but it does happen here. Though to be honest I would rather have done the work, being a TVC it is not really worth anything to me as a credit, it might get me noticed in Japan but I doubt it as it is only a TVC but I do enjoy working and meeting new people in the industry.
The second audition was for a video game or something for Japanese TV again and called for a very tall, powerfully built Wrestler. Basically I am the only guy outside of Japan that they can possibly use. So it is mine.... except for one problem. It is filming in October when I am already scheduled to be in Australia with the Sydney Dance Company - not only have I got a verbal agreement with SDC they also pay a lot better and the TVC does not pay enough to warrant a one day return flight.
So that is my second strike in a Japanese TVC.
The third audition I have not heard back yet, again they were looking for wrestler style characters for a Hong Kong broadband internet company, pay is not too exciting again but I might be working with John who runs a personal development site amongst other things, that would be good as John is now getting involved in acting here in Bangkok as he was involved in theatre and a few movies back in Australia and enjoys it and with his new career path he has the time to chase his dreams.
So let us see, maybe you'll be seeing me in Hong Kong soon? And I am not talking about the TVC that I was just writing about ;)
