Last night I went to dinner with an Acting Agent, an International TV presenter, a multiple award winning Director and a film investor. Normally Idon't go out on Friday or Saturday nightsbut I guess you can see why I made an exception last night....
So at dinner i sat next to an American Agent, just getting into Acting but with previous experience with some of the worlds best sportspeople, so he has experience and won't be hobbled by small money syndrome which I am sick of (Agents and Actors scared to ask for decent money as they are afraid the producer will chose someone else cheaper).
Turns out he is visiting Hollywood next week and some contacts he has there to arrange to be a regional Agent with reciprocal deals and trying to get American actors additional work in Asia, and best news for me is that if all goes according to plan then I will have representation in America, in Hollywood. Meaning that I will get cast for American movies based in the USA.
For me this is a big deal. It opens up the largest (moneywise) movie production market, with a LOT of potential work, and with the chance to get in a really big movie. AND best news yet - if I get one of these I will be paid properly, on time, and without lies, attempted theft and without arguing or threats to my safety.
AND I will be eligible to receive residuals. The money you are supposed to get if I movie does well and gets sold into other markets. The better the profit the movie makes the more money the main talent and producers/writters/directors make. Fair enough I say, profit sharing is a great incentive for everyone to give their best. Also to be compensated fairly after everything I have been through to get the goal, to get a major part in a big movie takes a lot of time, training, development, gym time, diet, lessons, the list goes on. Not to mention you need to have a strong personality.
Look at it this way. I have passed up 20 years of working in a corporation to get where I am now, earning minimal amounts of money and frugal living like a student paying his own way. Add up 20 years of wages, bonuses, paid holiday time, sick leave, medical plans and insurance, company cars, company phones, all the lurks and perks of working for a large firm. Add in 20 years of promotions and raises and there is a LOT of money that I need to earn back in large amounts to cover the last 20 years of losses.
This is why big actors earn so much, and really big actors earn stupid big money, like really good CEO's of top International companies.
So back to the point, I may be cast in American movies soon.
That would be very nice, I would never have a money worry again.
Conan TV
Oh and Conan on TV?
Yes well it is currently in discussion that I will host a small sponsored segment on the local English speaking TV channel here. Things have progressed to the point that a monetary offer has been made and I have accepted and am now I am just waiting on the next step. Well waiting and putting forward ideas to make the segment better value for the sponsors by making it memorable.
Local TV. Nice. It would open up the chance for me to get more TV time, building a reasonable between movie income, additional film work Credits and give me something to do each week. I am very excited about this, being on TV - that was my dream and thoughts that first led me to decide I wanted to be an actor.
