Shaky Camera Angles

Friday, 09 November 2007

Crikey!

I just watched another movie with that stupid shaky camera thing, every scene was a montage short cuts and lots of camera movement, even the close up 'stills' had stupid shaky camera movement.

I mean am I the only one who thinks this is retarded?

It makes it hard to watch, and NO having flashy moving things does not interest me - try monkeys and Bower birds I believe they like flashy shiny things.

Is this a symptom of the ADD generation? Do some people need constant movement and their brains capacity fully utilised just trying to see what is on the screen as it changes every 3 seconds just so they don't get "bored"?

It really annoys me, I cannot see the scene, I cannot concentrate on the story and WORST OF ALL I cannot see the stuntmen perform or the fight action.

In the movie I just watched there was a big car chase scene with lots of good driving and spectacular crashes - now with the stupid camera work I could not see anything these stuntmen risked their lives to perform. Why would you hire these professionals and then cut all their work up so it cannot be seen?

In another movie, "The Condemned" they did the same things with the fight scenes. Arrghhhh!

You hire some of the best professional wrestlers in the world then you hide the fight with the Parkinsons disease camera work and the post production "editing". This particularly annoyed me in that in this movie the story was weak, the sets were nothing spectacular and it was a fight movie that you could not watch the fights in!  I mean the personalities and the fights between them was the only selling point in the movie.

Even more annoying is that there are these things called Steady Cams that are not too expensive to rent on a daily basis and they can hold the camera perfectly steady in all but a full pace run from the camera man. The restraurant fight scene in Tom Yum Goong is shot on a steady cam, where Tony Jaa runs up 10 flights of stairs and disposes of dozens of henchmen was all shot in 1 take on a steady cam (very well shot actually - the camera man was fantastic).

Now to the shaky cam directors can we please have our fights and stunts back please???
