Back In Bangkok - What Next?

Sunday, 16 December 2007

I just spent 5 weeks in Sydney, Australia with Sydney Dance Company, followed by 2 weeks in Bangkok while finalising details before I went for 2 weeks to Mumbai, India then to Brisbane, Australia for 2 weeks to finish my contract with SDC.

So all in all I have been away for 11 weeks, add into that the month living out of a suitacase at a girlfriends place before I left (I vacated my apartment) and it is just about 4 months living out of a suitcase.

So what have been the effects and what am I going to do next?

First up 3 months of not eating well, travelling constantly and not being in the same place for more than 2 weeks at a time (in Sydney I shifted accomodation 3 times) add in hotel 'gyms' and the general disorder and my training and eating has suffered.

So in the last 3 months I have not been able to grow and in fact have lost 8kgs!!!

Although I did increase my cardio and I have taken off some more of the fat around my waistline in that time it is still a considerable amount of weight to lose.

So what now?

Well I have spent the last 4 days moving into a new apartment and setting it up. I now live a 5 minute walk from the gym and a five minute walk to 2 different supermarkets. So training and food are now covered easily. I get up and first thing have a protein drink (soon to be eggs now that I am able to cook again) and head to the gym for a workout followed by 20 minutes of cardio. Cardio for heart and lung health, not fat burning.

After the Australian Gladiators Tryouts I realised that my cardio fitness level was lacking. 2 years with very little cardio and breathing the polluted Bangkok air had left me with a mild case of smokers cough and the inability to keep up with 6 day a week fitness trainers - hardly surprising but it left me feeling that I had neglected an important part of my training. So now I am pushing my heart and lungs to adapt and get better after each weights workout in preparation for other future possibilities.

But now that I am back at 'home' comes the eternal question.... what do I do with my days?

By 9.30am I have finished my workout and have the whole day free with no responsibilities except to eat. I have decided to do about 3 hours a day work on the internet - that includes searching for contacts, reading the latest movie casting news, building the website, emails and of course some chatting with friends.

That takes me to lunch time... hmmm... having too much free time is hard to deal with...

So to fill in a few afternoons I am going to start training at the local Muay Thai gym for 2 days a week and also 2 days a week studying Philipino Stick Fighting for 2 days a week. The Muay Thai is for general conditioning and many Stunt Co-Ordinators look favourably on Stunt-Actors who do serious fight training (Tae Bo does not count) and it is a good stand up fight style.

The stick fighting is translatable to any hand to hand weapons fighting. ie a variety of swords, axes, maces, bludgeons, knives, etc. This means give me any hand to hand weapon and in addition to the experience I already have with the Society Of Creative Anachronisms that I will be proficient and more importantly impressive to any casting director who is looking for a warrior type.

Cool so that is 4 afternoons a week..... 3 to go and the night times.... I'll have to try to make my own fun in these times as boredom leads to drinking and partying and that is hardly conducive to muscle growth.

But why this pre-occupation with muscle growth?

I have signed a contract expressing my availabilty for a new concept in "Sports Entertainment" and it's not wrestling. So I want to get as big and fit as is possible in the next six months as this is an opportunity to work with some very talented people who are doing the background work building this idea from scratch. On top of that the two main guys are close friends to a very good mate of mine, and we got along well at the 'interview' which turned into a prolonged drinking session.

So I get to work with talented people whom I trust and get along with fantastically well and get an exciting potential income (mostly in terms of a merchanding with a very generous percentage) and due to the previous exploits of one guy in particular the whole concept is being taken very seriously by some very prestigious (wealthy) entertainment companies.

$$$$$ and fame.

Just what we all love :)
