Solomon Kane Trailer Released

Thursday, 10 December 2009

AWESOME! It is not often I get excited about a movie.

Solomon Kane is another character by Robert E. Howard - the creator of the Conan (the barbarian) character.

This is one movie that I am looking forward to watching, it looks like a faithful reproduction of the book character which is important for me as the character in Robert E. Howards books has always resonated with me.

He is strong emotionally, mentally and physically tough (not big and muscular like the Conan character) with a strong life purpose - just the sort of 'hero' needed by todays youth....

Solomon Kane is a puritan who goes about the world ridding it of evil and living by his own personal code of morals that he adheres to strictly. Set in the real world in a time of flintlock pistols and the start of gunpowder the world is still hardly explored.

Here is the official blurb:

Solomon Kane is a 16th century anti-hero created by Robert E. Howard (creator of Conan the Barbarian). When Solomon Kane (James Purefoy of Rome) meets the Devil’s Reaper, he postpones his fate by renouncing violence – a vow that is soon tested by the forces of evil. As Kane once again straps on his weapons, he embarks on an epic journey of redemption.

Written and directed by Michael J. Bassett, the film also stars Rachel Hurd-Wood, Pete Postlethwaite, Alice Krige, Mackenzie Crook, Jason Flemyng and Max von Sydow as Josiah Kane.

And the trailer (I think James Purefoy looks like an excellent choice):

PLOT:

'The movie tells the origins of Solomon Kane and is hoped to be the first of a trilogy of movies. When the story opens Kane is a mercenary of Queen Elizabeth I fighting in Africa, but after an encounter with a demon, The Reaper, he realizes he must seek redemption or have his soul damned to Hell. He returns to England and lives a life of peace, converting to puritanism, but soon the doings of an evil sorcerer upset his plans and he must take up arms again.[1]

James Purefoy has been cast as puritan [sic] swordsman Solomon Kane in a movie of the same name to be made from the stories of Conan the Barbarian creator Robert E. Howard. Kane is a 16th century soldier who learns that his brutal and cruel actions have damned him but is determined to redeem himself by living peaceably. But he finds himself dragged out of retirement for a fight against evil.[2]

On April 7, 2009 Bassett announced that production of the film is complete.[10] The release date is still to be determined.

According to Paradox Entertainment CEO Fredrik Malmberg, the film's budget was $40,000,000 USD. [11]
