For the last several weeks I have been a little dubious about or vintage, going on antique, elevator. I wonder everytime I get in it what would happen if it were to stop?
40 degree (105 fahr) heat in a small metal box, suspended a tens of meters above the ground by an equally questionable cable system.
Tonight I found out.....
2am Friday night, I hop in the lift for the short trip to the 6th floor with 2 other people.
10 seconds into the journey the lift shudders to a halt between floors.
Wonderful. Three people in a 4 foot square metal box in 35 degree heat,
no aircon and the ceiling fan stopped when the elevator stopped between floors.

Great what do we do now? Grab the emergency phone? No, there isn't one. Ahh... push the emergency button. A bell rings on the front of the elevator. I hope it is loud enough to wake our sleeping security guard at the front door. We ring and wait, it's getting hot. The security guard asks what's wrong. We explain, he says he will go get tools. Now it's getting very hot...
Shoving my fingers into the door rubbers I manage to pull the doors
open and get some fresh air and a lovely view of the locked steel
doors of the floor above at waist height for me (shoulder height for
the Thai girl trapped with me).
Ten minutes later the security guards have unlocked the doors and
let us out of the elevator stuck between floors. Glad I am not claustrophobic, even more glad the others weren't either.
You have all head from Anthony Robbins the Power Of Positive Thinking, well now Conan Stevens brings you the Power Of Negative Thinking.
Be careful what you think about - it has a way of coming true - good or bad.
