New movie?

No, just my ordinary everyday life. On top of catching the armed burglar at our apartment the other week, this week I foiled though did not apprehend, a rapist....

In Australia I'd be up in front of the police with the 'victim' being the low life dog attempting the crimes. This is one area where Thailand and South East Asia is miles ahead of the West.

As the Police Chief in a Phnom Penh, Cambodia district was loosely quoted by the English language newspaper over there - the foreigner should have killed the break and enter thief, not tried to subdue him - the thief was fighting for his life  whereas the foreigner whose apartment was broken into was only trying to subdue the thief. The result was that the foreigner was killed and the thief got away.

Back to the story.

Several weeks ago I was awoken at 3am by a scream very nearby, I rushed to the door and heard the owner of the apartment call "catch him" without hesitation I ran out the door, wearing only red board shorts, to do what I could. I got downstairs and a local guy was wrestling with a well set Thai guy I have never seen before and the apartment owner struggling to hold him.

I said "I've got him" and  proceeded to put him into a Full Nelson wrestling move (who says wrestling is fake?), a choke hold that works very well as it restrains and can render the person unconscious within seconds without harm. Upon the owners suggestion I checked the burglars pockets as he took a short nap, he must have been very tired running about all night, and removed a razor knife and his waist bag had already come off in the struggle, out of that had fallen a fake pistol that he had pulled on the Girl next door which is what had made her scream.

The police soon arrived and were fantastic in their handling of the situation and all was well and good again... until this week...

Coming home from a friends place, riding the back streets shortcut I heard a woman scream up ahead, I accelerated the motorbike around the corner and saw a woman running towards me screaming. In broken Thai I asked what was wrong and as she ran past she mimed being hit in the face.

Ahead was a reasonably well dressed man who looked to be shitting himself at the prospect of facing this mountain the rides. Short story he escaped into the bushland 'conveniently' nearby, the girl was traumatised but otherwise unhurt.

Seems that kidnapping to sell the woman, or straight out rape then slit the neck so she can't talk are not that uncommon practises to some, and something all the local girls are scared off.

In future I'll be much more vigilant and questioning lone guys hang out in suspicious places late at night.

Vigilante action? No I am just being a good citizen and looking after my neighbours.

Oh and yes, the foiled robbery got me in the newspapers, on Pattaya TV news and on Bangkok TV news, a free appearance this time.
