Suhkumvit Road (Busy Street)
Many people around looking at various
stalls, someone is bartering for a tourist trinket (wooden statue),
people are buying CD's, etc and looking at stalls.
A Tourist is buying BBQ chicken on a
stick (skewers) from a stall.
The food stand is a typical Thai
outdoor pushcart, dirty, rusty, the chicken skewers are being cooked
on a metal grid over hot coals.
The Tourist is 50 year old European
male, wearing camera around his neck, wearing typical tourist
clothing, photographers vest with many pockets and a white panama(?)
hat. He has just purchased a chicken skewer and replaced his wallet
into a loose pocket in his vest.
Daniel walks past quickly, apparently
loosing his footing on the uneven pavement and bumps into the
tourist. He falls into the tourist and grabs hold of him to steady
himself.
Closeup: His hand reaches into
the tourists pocket pulls the wallet out and places it into his
pocket, all without the tourist noticing.

Tourist
Don't worry about, I'm OK
Daniel
Have a good day
Daniel turns around and a big smile
spreads on his face. He continues on his way (walking quickly as
before).
The tourist reaches for his wallet,
but cannot find it, he then checks his other pockets quickly, patting
them, a look of concern on his face.
The tourist looks at Daniel walking
away, points at him and
Tourist
That kid stole my wallet,
stop him, THIEF!
Daniel starts to walk a
little faster, the smile no longer on his face. He passes by a Thai
noodle restaurant.
Thai noodle restaurant is
like a garage, open faced room facing onto the street, there is a
push cart stall cooking noodles at the front to one side. The room is
dirty with plastic tables and chairs, an old picture of the King on
one wall and various other faded photos of Buddhist monks on the
other walls.
In the restaurant there are
Policeman #1 and Policeman #2 eating noodles, as the Tourist starts
yelling they look up and see Daniel.
Daniel looks into the shop
and sees the two police sitting there. Their eyes meet, the Policemen
pause with spoons half way to their mouths and stare at Daniel.
Daniel stops in his tracks and stares at the Policemen.
Scene hangs here for about
3 seconds as these two just stare, then Daniel makes a break for it
running away.
The Policemen give chase.
Daniel runs down the
street, as he runs he runs down the street towards John
John
Hi
Daniel, what's up?
Daniel
Not
now John
John looks behind and sees
the police giving chase, John hides his face from the Police then
ducks into his shop.
Daniel continues running,
he looks back at the Police and runs straight into Pooh, he stumbles
falls and rolls, jumps back up and continues calling over his
shoulder
Daniel
Sorry
Pooh
(Yelling)
Stupid idiot, watch where you are going
Cut to:
Ext.
Narrow Side Street
Daniel runs into a narrow
side street, at the end is a dead end and two walls of opposing
buildings are very close together (1 meter apart or so).
The Policemen look at
Daniel trapped Daniel jumps up places one hand and one foot on either
wall and starts climbing up between the walls. The Policemen give
chase but the time they get to Daniel he is 2 meters up the walls and
out of reach. The Policemen jump and try to grab a hold of Daniel but
they have no chance. They run into the doorway of one of the
buildings.
Daniel climbs up to a 2nd
floor window and climbs into the open window.
Cut to:
Int.
Thai Family Room
A typical working class Thai room. One bed, one closet,
a rack of clothes, pictures of Monks and Rama V (old King), family
photo from upcountry, TV with buddha statue on it.
The family (Mother, Father, Son and Grandmother)
sitting on the floor while the Daughter serves food. On the floor is
scattered newspaper with various foods in plastic take away bags. The
family members have a plate of rice in front of them.
Daniel jumps into the room.
The Thai family look at Daniel surprised as this
stranger has just jumped in through their window.
The family freezes looking at Daniel. Daniel brushes
off the dirt from his hands and dusts off his jacket, looks up and
sees the family staring at him. Daniel wais the family
Daniel
Sawadee Krup.
The Thai family stare at
him in amazement.
Grandmother
(Like
nothing is wrong she wais Daniel) Sawadee Ka
The family stare at her,
she smiles a blackened toothless grin at Daniel
Daniel runs at the family
and jumps over them. He heads for the door, opens the door and goes
out.
Cut to:
Int.
Corridor In Thai Apartments
Short corridor with big window at one end and stairs leading up
and down at the other end. Daniel runs to the window looks out –
too far down but he sees insulation mats down below as workmen are
renovating next door.
He turns and runs back to the stairs, looking down he sees the
Policemen coming up the stairs, not too far away, he turns and runs
back to the window this time jumping out, planning to land on the
insulation mats.
Cut to:
Ext.
Narrow Side Street
As he jumps the workmen below pick up the mat and carry it off.
Daniel lands in a pile of old walls and building materials removed
from the flat they are renovating, plaster walls, etc. A lot of dust
flies up as he lands on it.
The Policemen look out the window, see how he landed and wince to
each other.
Policeman #1
(In Thai) (Laughing) I bet
that hurt
Policeman #2
(In
Thai) Quick, I'll go call an ambulance, ever person is entitled to
medical help, criminal or not
Policeman #1
(In Thai) What? They teach
you that in Police School?
You
didn't see what I just did? Through psychology I made him jump, now
we can capture him and we don't get in trouble for shooting him –
he hurt himself. Now we just go pick him up and take him to the
station
Daniel gets up, hurt and in pain. He takes a step winces, reaches
around and pulls a nail out of his butt, looks at it and throws it
down. Looks around and runs off.
Policeman #2
(In Thai) Look he's
getting away
Policeman #1
(In Thai) Patience, he's
limping, we'll catch him easy now, follow me
Daniel runs away from police and then when he thinks he is safe he
starts walking again, he walks toward a corner and the Policemen
appear again, the chase starts again.
Cut to:
Ext.
Traffic Jammed Street
Alley way, Daniel being chased by Policemen, he is running towards
the main street which is busy with traffic. The street is one lane of
traffic going in each direction
The traffic crawls slowly by, about 20km per hour in a typical
Bangkok traffic jam. There is a semi trailer on the main road
directly in front of Daniel now. He runs straight at it.
He jumps up and runs along the walls formed by the back of the
cabin and the front of the trailer. He runs one foot on the cabin,
then one foot on the trailer, one foot on the cabin and then he dives
off onto the top of a Tuk Tuk. He spins, rolls so that he goes feet
first into the Tuk Tuk's back seat and lands in the back seat.
The startled driver looks at him.
Daniel
Drive, drive, quick,
quick, go!
Tuk Tuk Driver
Big traffic, no go
Dan looks ahead the traffic
isn't moving at all. Frustrated he jumps out of the Tuk Tuk and
continues running.
The Policemen are in hot
pursuit.
Policeman #2
(In Thai) Woh, did you see
that!
Policeman #1
(In Thai) (Stopping) (Out
of breathe) (To himself) I can't run anymore
Policeman #2
(In Thai) What? Quick we
almost got him
Policeman #1
(In Thai) (Hiding that he
is out of breathe) No, uhm, let him go
Policeman #2
(In Thai) But we almost
have him
Policeman #1
(In
Thai) (Thinking quick) But we don't want HIM. He is only the small
fish, if we let him “get away” then he will lead us to the big
fish – his Boss. It's all psychology
Policeman #2
(In
Thai) Wow, you're so smart
Policeman #2 starts running
