Common knowledge abounds in acting circles that working in porn or adult movies will hurt your 'legitimate' or mainstream acting career.
But why? Some people say to me it is still film experience, and it is money on the table which has to be better than starving to death as a lowly paid actor while you get your experience and climb the rungs.
Well yes, money on the table is always good, but most times easy money has it's price....
How many of you have seen an Adult movie? I see lots of hands raised out there for this one. Now how many of you that have seen blue movies have seen one with good acting (meaning speech, expressions, body language, etc), no one?
There may be some that are of good standard but the prevailing reputation is of C grade acting from a bunch of dumb bimbos. So if you list on your actors biography that you have worked in adult films then it will look like you were not a good enough actor to work in real movies, but you might have a good looking body. Really not such a good thing to be branded with.
Also can you imagine being cast for a major Hallmark series or Disney movie, as soon as they find out you were a blue movie actor then you can quickly kiss that part goodbye. There is no way they want to be associated with that industry in any way.
Adult movies can pay alright money, but generally to the stars who are invariably female, and no I am not interested in doing Gay porn at all. There are a couple of recognised male names, but they are few and far between and in the process of 'making' it you are paid little money - about 2,500 Euros last time I was offered, but there is plenty of work if you are good at it.
You have your future social life to consider, maybe the girl that I end up proposing to may not like the idea I worked in Adult films and reject my offer.
Mainstream movies pay better. This is my main one.
To rise up in adult movies takes time, and I guess it would take me as much effort to make it in mainstream movies, then why would I go for the 'shady' underground version with less pay when I can go for the glitz and glamour and be in the public spotlight?
I intend to make it to the top in my chosen niche so enduring a few hardships along the way is character building. overcoming obstacles and becoming successful against the hardships is what builds confidence and makes you into a better man. Taking the easy way out never pays off.
So in short yes, working in adult movies will do no good for your acting career.
