Photo Shoot For "The Big" Thai Movie

Today we went to Prah Ram 9 for a photo shoot for "The Big" (I have to find out the correct Thai name and translate it myself - "Hannuman")

We dressed in our costumes and adopted our persona's....

... As usual I am the Big Guy. My part will be the bodyguard of one of the main characters and my fighting style will be bare handed brute force power moves / pro-wrestling throws.

During the photo shoot I did all the standard poses they asked, then threw in about 8 that I know look good for me to do, then after they finished I said one more.

I then grabbed the camera assistant and picked him up by the neck and held him ready for a "Choke Slam" - holding him above my head at arms length - one hand under the neck in a strangling hold, the other inconspicuously holding his belt and most of his body weight so he doesn't choke (as he is not trained).

This went down fabulously well - and to my benefit. In the photos I now have another person in there to reference my height as well as my size - otherwise I just look like a muscular guy.

Adding the height difference into the pics makes me look truly massive, especially since the move is one the average person could never hope to pull off.

My photo session went rather quickly - again as usual. Practise makes perfect. Knowing what poses to do that look good for you, how to give the correct feeling and look from your face and body language, knowing where to posture your limbs for maximum musculature and keeping the lighting favourable as much as possible is important.

Also adjusting / removing costume as would benefit my body shape, against the photographers initial wishes.

Being a professional actor as well as an (ex-) professional fighter definitely helps. The other guys were asked to scream to get an angry look on their faces, I just pulled a mean snarl straight out of my doorman days (remembered one guy I particularly hated and felt it) this got instant applause from the camera crew. They gave me no more facial directions - I did my own - changing the look and feel to suit each pose.

Acting isn't easy - it is years of experience and failure built up to know:

  1. what to do
  2. how to do it
  3. and most importantly when to do it

And I really feel like I have almost finally made it.
