Last night I was invited to and attended the wrap party for the Bangkok Dangerous remake starring Nicholas Cage - (also known as Time To Kill USA working title Big Hit In Bangkok Thai working title).

I took several photos and a couple of videos of the event, so if you have ever wondered what a movie wrap party is like - here is the Thai version....
The Bangkok Dangerous 2007 (Big Hit In Bangkok / Time To Kill) wrap party was set on Sukhumvit Soi 16 on the 43rd floor of the tallest building around, it was an impressive backdrop and instantly got Ray thinking we should redo one of the fight scenes to occur with a similar backdrop for the movie we are writing.

Bangkok Dangerous 2007 is based on the original Thai movie Bangkok Dangerous (1999), with the same directors - the Pang brothers - Oxide Pang Chun and Danny Pang - but this time starring a famous American actor - Nicholas Cage - and speaking in English for sale to the US market b
Thai movie parties, in fact Thai parties start with a ton of food, everyone sits around eating, talking and eating some more. For a small people they can definitely pack the food away.
Looking around the dining room we could not see Nicholas Cage anywhere.
Every good party starts with food
In fact with the amount they can eat without getting fat is a testament to how good and clean the food is here. If you don't know most Thai dishes consist of rice or noodles (not instant rubbish), fresh vegetables and fresh meat (killed in the markets that morning) and fresh chilli, garlic, powdered chilli, a variety of spices, chilli paste , a variety of sauces, and some chilli sauce for good measure.

Looking in the background there you can see the next stage of a Thai party. Just as they can pack away huge amounts of food, they can also put away huge amounts of alcohol.
At the Bangkok Dangerous 2007 Party they have set up beer tents indoors, there is also a cocktail waiter pouring out whatever you desire, by the end of the night the cocktails had run out but there were still about 50 cases of beer and about 15 kegs of beer Chang left.
Thats when two very pretty girls got on stage and performed a magic
show, they were quite good actually, performing slight of hand and
other visual tricks.
Everybody was watching the show, we ran into the actors James With, Dom Hetrakul, and the assistant director King Kong (Dom and King Kong worked with us on Bangkok Adrenaline later).
We also bumped into all the stuntmen from Seng Stunts, but still no Nicholas Cage, I mean he can't be that hard to spot can he?
After that the music started with a cabaret show followed by this singer.

After that the party proper began - drinking, dancing, mock fights all over the place with drunk stunt men - all in all a good time.
Impromptu Disco
Though, from a professional point of view, the main reason for attending a wrap party is to cement friendships with people you have been working with for the last couple of months, or in my case to remake aquaintence, to be seen about and to meet new people.
I went to the Bangkok Dangerous 2007 wrap party with Greg (King Kong) and Ray. Ray worked on the movie for a couple of days just to use his photo in one scene, he turned down another role as a broken down Czech junky because the casting for the part was completely disorganised for a small part, plus he had more important things to do if they could not make their mind up after seeing him 2 times already - from an actors point of view that is very unprofessional - especially for a small part.
Greg, Ray and the Chang Beer Man
Greg, whose nick name is King Kong here in Thailand (the Thais gave it to him) has been in Thailand now for something like 12 years and has worked and acted in so many different positions in the industry here from extra to Assistant Stunt Director in this film.
The Chang Beer man was the bartender who was serving us, needless to say after 10 beers each he became our friend :)
The Bangkok Dangerous 2007 wrap party was winding down and we still hadn't seen Nicholas Cage. Come on King Kong you're assistant director go find out where he is - I want a photo for my blog.
Off King Kong trundles only to return 5 minutes later with the news that Nicholas Cage was not attending the Bangkok Dangerous 2007 party as he had flown back to the USA upon completion of filming. Fair enough.
And one last thing, for those of you who rushed to watch the Girl singer with huge hooters in a tiny g-string bikini - she is a he. All cabarets in Thailand are staffed exclusively by ladyboys and katoeys.
