Well as in movieland things in real life can go wrong and delay post production - as witnessed by the extended release date of Manthing - over 2 years late. In the case of Manthing I do not know the story behind the late release, but these other movies I am a lot closer to and can fill in some details.
Hanuman by Panankorn
This is a rather unusual one, first here is the story from one of the English speaking newspapers over here, keep in mind that Sornram Theppitak is the lead actor in the movie:
Actor kills garbage collector in car crash
A garbage
collector was killed late Wednesday when a famous actor Sornram
Theppitak in his BMW collided against her in Bangkok. Mr Sornram
reportedly hit the 59-year-old woman at 11pm near a telephone booth in
Lao Prao district. Direk Photichai, a security guard at Sri Thani
condominium locating near the scene, said he heard a loud noise at the
entrance of the condominium so he ran to the scene. He said he saw Mr
Sornram opened the door of his black BMW 525i and found the body of
Pitploen Takoanma in blood. He said Mr Sornram told him that he dozed
off.
Now this tragic event seems to be the reason for the late release, I have heard rumours that the movie release is to be postponed until this recent 'bad publicity' is forgotten.
My condolences go ou to the family of the woman hit, Pitploen Takoma, this sort of thing is always a shock and a reminder of how fragile and precious life can be.
Powerkids
Now for Powerkids I am not sure, at the Baa Ram Ewe Christmas party I was told that the movie had been sold to America and everyone was very happy. I am not sure what "sold to America" means exactly, whether they sold the script rights or they secured a DVD distribution deal I do not know - either way it is a big success.
So what happened?
I am not sure so this is pure speculation.
In the final scene there is an exact look alike of the then Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra. My guess is that the movie would have been nearly finished when the military coup happened and the current military government installed themselves.
For Baa Ram Ewe to release the movie with Thaksin as Prime Minister could possibly seen as Baa Ram Ewe supporting Thaksin as it is reported that he is trying to regain his former control of Thailand through any means possible. Now I am just reporting what I have heard through official channels.
To be seen supporting him under the current conditions might be a rather silly and possibly illegal move.
So why not just reshoot the scene? The children in the movie are now 2 years older, they have grown.
So what is happening? I do not know. This is my speculation only.
Bangkok Adrenaline
Again here I am not sure, this one puzzles me - the movie just needs a more few days, maybe a week of shooting to get all the 'bridging' scenes and 'cut ins'. For example in one long dialogue there were some short dream like sequences to be shot to go with the dialogue and make it more interesting. Also an couple of additional fights were hoped to be filmed.
This is one that disappoints me as we were so rushed in the filming that it took its toll on everyone involved with tempers fraying on the last few days of filming and production crew running on 2 hours a night sleep for over a month.
But the reason it annoys me is that I have recently been contacted to apply for an audition with several LARGE movies and I don't have any decent showreel footage - Bangkok Adrenaline was my ticket into the auditions and as it stands I just have the stuff on my current showreel which I believe is not enough to get me taken as a serious contender in 'A' grade Hollywood flicks.
Som Tam
The other movie I am waiting on is Som Tam which I have been told is scheduled for release in February which is a rather fast release for a cinema release movie - lets hope it comes out then.
