After months of not putting any bodybuilding photos up online I have now pulled my finger out and gotten a few new photos taken today.
First up I was hesitant to put up bodybuilding photos at this point as I have lost a lot of weight over the last 3.5 months due to travel and work commitments and then partying over Christmas and New Years followed by a very recent very low calorie cleansing diet...

Half Reps is the technique of doing a push or pulling exercise in the gym but only using 1/2 the total movement distance. The half rep technique can be done for a variety of reasons, mostly the wrong reasons.
A rep (short for repitition) means a full range of movement with a weighted object, like a barbell or dumbbell. For instance a full rep on the Bench Press would mean moving the weight from full arm extension down until the bar touches your chest (ie cannot go any further) then back up to full arm extension.
Benchpress Full Rep
Half Reps are an advanced technique that all beginners should stear clear of, unless they want a slap in the back of the head from me... why?....

"How can I gain weight" - the eternal question for teenage boys, footballers and beginning bodybuilders. Also the question that took me from a skinny 70kg long distance runner to todays weight of over 140kg - more than doubling my lean body weight.
21 years ago I started to ask how do I gain weight in earnest, studying every bit of archaic knowledge, the current state of professional nutrition advice and every bit of hearsay we could get our ears around. In the end we decided to follow these following steps.
In 3 months I gained 20kg of weight, mostly muscle!

The Big Book of Bodybuilding has been released!
The Big Book of Bodybuilding has been written by Conan Stevens and John Hill with 193 pages of original content written by us collaboratively and drawing upon our combined 42 years of gym, muscle gain, strength training and fat loss experience.
In that time John has put on 108 lbs of muscle (49 kg) and Conan has put on 181 lbs (82 kg) at their heaviest. That is some serious muscle gain.
We have the practical knowledge we have applied it to ourselves, we experimented, tested and measured the results from every training routine, and every diet idea we came across - surprisingly after 21 years each John and I both agree on the same methods to get big, and now we tell you...

"I can't find time to train" the cry echoes out around us in our busy modern lives. So many people forego thier fitness commitments and allow themselves to become unfit and flabby, yet there are others around us who seem to find the time and get fitter and better looking all the time.
What is the difference? Where do these people find the time?

I was talking with a bodybuilding friend the other day about our lives and how bodybuilding changed the way our lives have gone and the paths we took. It was rather an interesting reflection, without bodybuilding in my life I would probably be stuck in my hometown working some sort of office job with computers.
The benefits of bodybuilding have been great, for both of us, but today I am going to talk about the benefits that I have personally gained...

Muscleman returns - bigger than ever!
It has been a while since I posted any photos of myself in the gym, so in an effort to recitfy that and to satisfy requests from regular readers I took some photos of your favourite Muscleman - me - in the gym yesterday.
Originally I was not going to post these photos as the lighting is terrible but then, what the heck, I'll do some better photos later and put them up too

Hardgainer is a term used in bodybuilding to describe people who have a hard time increasing their muscle mass.
Hardgainers make their muscle gains through a long slow process at times barely putting on any muscle, often for years hardgainers will almost stagnate no matter how hard they train or what they do.
Here is how to cure your 'hardgainer genetics' and to pack muscle on explosively...

I have just seen all over the internet forums and on blogs all excitement over the "300 workout". It is supposed to be the fitness workout that got the guys 'in shape' for the Spartan war movie 300.
What a load of bollocks.
Variously I have seen the 300 workout written as a 4 month training course or an 8 week training course. The exercises seem to vary too - hmmm.... Chinese whispers at work.
I have photographic proof that the 300 workout is NOT responsible for King Leonidas (Gerard Butler) muscled physique. Also as a professional actor and stuntman and as a 20 year bodybuilder - I will fill you in on a few more details before you go believing the hype....

Except for the watery waist I am getting a lot leaner, this photo was taken onset at the Hanuman movie shoot and I was later that night to go to the BKK Adrenaline movie shoot - where the first thing Ray said to me was "Hey what happened to you? Why are you so fat today?"
Thanks Ray, just what everyone on a diet wants to hear. Probably something to do with eating 7-11 convenience store food and some sort of Thai soup that did not taste too good as I was working 12 hours on set with the Hanuman movie before going for another 12 hours on Bangkok Adrenaline...

Over the last months (since I have stopped partying so much) I have been getting some great gains, but my triceps are not growing as quickly as they should be.
Previously I was training biceps and triceps together to get massive arm pumps, this too was working but I found with the way that I train chest and triceps make a better combination...

My back is sore, in a good way. My back is getting stronger and bigger each week, I can feel it. I get a huge back pump after only 2 sets in the gym.
My posture is improved and I stand taller.
The exercise is one of the oldest known and most basic exercises, yet there are only 3 people in my gym that do it - Deadlifts. Why are we the few who do it? Why does no one else do it?
That's because we're not lazy in the gym...

People often ask me what is the best way to lose fat. Besides the obvious of stop eating rubbish the other suggestion is to take up some cardiovascular exercise (cardio).
What is the best cardio to burn fat is often the next question....
