TVC Casting Diet Coke For Japan - Tips For Getting Picked At An Audition

Monday, 26 February 2007

Sunday I recieved a call from Roy at Cool Modeling -

Roy - Are you available on the 9th to the 11th?
Conan - 9th and the mornings of the 10th and 11th yes, why?
Roy - Want to be on a TVC for Coca-Cola Japan? They need a bodyguard character
Conan - OK, where do I audition?

So the next day I headed out to the back of some hard to get place off Sukhumvit Soi 71, the casting studio was a nice 2 storey house converted into photo studios and offices.

When I arrived the usual bunch of pretty people with terrible attitudes were hanging about (yes I am talking about professional models), and a bunch of much cooler, more personable actors and agents.

Apparently the Thai staff knew me though I do not remember meeting any of them before, but then I have been seen around quiet a bit now - and not always at places I like to be remembered for ;)

After filling int the sheet and having a quick chat to my agent about the current state of business (suddenly very busy again - good!), and a chat to a few other people there I was directed upstairs to the photo studio.

Here were 3 Thai staff who were completely impressed with my height, the photographer ran over and stood next to me, looking up, they were all giggling. Due to my height I can do some pretty amazing things like....

I threw a Muay Thai (Thai boxing -the national sport) style knee to his head, startling him and getting a huge laugh from the others present. This ended up with me doing a bunch of photos unrelated to the work at hand, hitting him, picking him up for pro-wrestling moves and generally mucking about.

Then we had to get serious for 2 minutes and take the standard modeling shots, about 8 photos in all. To enhance my chances I do some with a happy face, a relaxed face, a concerned face and an angry face and body language. This covers a greater range of potential characters and increases your chance of the casting director choosing me - it also shows I know what I am doing and can do a variety of roles - ie I will do the job, do it correctly, in a minimum of time.

So after the 8 photos I have to wait for about a week to find out if they wwant me for the job - and then we can discuss the pay rate, which depends heavily upon the level of involvement.

As a side note I went to a local eatery with Roy afterwards and the owner came rushing up with a camera, pointing to the walls and telling me many famous people had eaten there - and so they had. He got a bunch of photos of me eating there and posing with the staff, but I was sorry to inform him that I would not be famous until September, though if he wanted he could go see me in a small part in the cinema in few days.

I forgot to ask him - had he seen me on TV before? I know they are playing the Satin Matress TVC again in Thailand and I was on the news the other night with the Buddhist ceremony for Bangkok Adrenaline.

Anyway I will post again if I get the gig.

Good Luck until then

UPDATE:No, I did not get a call back for this one
