Total bombs and grenade attacks on New Years - 7. Total dead now at about 3. Injuries - a lot more (36+).
Following the coward retards throwing grenades into innocent crowds on New Years Eve and setting off timed bombs they are continuing their 'attacks'. Just yesterday there were 2 more bombs set off in major shopping areas...
Unlike Western media there is no frenzy, no frontpage bullcrud, no sensationalism and therefore... NO PANIC.
Even as my mate saw one of the first bomb sites at Victory Monument (he lives close by) the police had taped off the area with blue and white stripped police tape and people sat right next to the tape in the numerous outdoor restaurants eating and chatting - looking on at the destruction only meters away.
The Thai people are amazing. If this was anywhere in the West the Media would have reports of hundreads dead, 24 hour coverage (of fear mongering), dramatic scenes of people crying.
Here I just watched the latest news report with a Thai friend and had her translate the happenings, the report was in a matter of fact style of reporting with respect to the victims. There was a brief interview with a fellow in hospital who was injured in an attack but he was talking normally with some officials.
None of the screaming hysteria you see in Western news reports.
One man has been caught and is being questioned at present as a 'direct' suspect in carrying explosives. This will be interesting. No weak western lawyers carrying on about human rights, the guy will be made to talk - he lost his rights the time he decided to kill innocents.
Also an ex- Prime Minister has been arrested in conjuction with the attacks. The fellow is/was a strong supporter of the recently deposed Taksin (Thaksin (spelling?)) Government.
So far it has been established that the attacks are not from the Muslims in the South as originally suspected - a bomb in a mosque in Chang Mai was the definite display of that.
It is being reported that the attacks on civilians are by the people still loyal too Taksin - they think they can discredit the currrent Military Government and make them 'loose face' in front of the people.
Bloody ridiculous - yes look, we were a much better Government, there were no bombings and killings while we were in power.
That is the story as it stands. These are the current public thoughts from the media and not related to my own thoughts (as I personally fail to understand the wider implications so I cannot form my own thoughts on this matter).
One thing is sure the bombs will continue.
And we'll continue our lives like nothing is happening.... :)
UPDATE: May 2007 still bombs go off at random times, not so often but occassionally another shopping center will get bombed.
