Just recently a good friend suggested that I put a deadline on my acting career, a cut off date where if I had not made it by then that I should give it up and go back to Australia to build my future the traditional way of swapping hours for money in what some people call a real job. Funnily enough a mutual friend of both of us called last month and said to me, when I was a feeling down, "Look how far you have come in the last 5 years - Imagine where you will be in 5 years time." Or should I follow some previous advice and get the heck out of the third world? All very good sets of advice so which do I take? Which would you take? That depends upon where you would believe your career is at. Here's what I am doing.... |

Again while many 'actors' sit around waiting for their agent to call them for a casting I have been at it myself, trying to create my own work. Scouring the web for new possibilities , making my own luck . This is a lot easier than you might think... well make that it is a lot easier than you think once you have built yourself into a definite niche product with the required skill sets and enough experience to be taken seriously when you make your pitch. Oh yes, did I mention that you have to learn to sell yourself ? |

TWO MILLION unique visits to this site. Yes, two million seperate visits, not page refreshes, not 'hits' no bullcrap stats but a real 2 million people have 'passed through the gates' so to speak as measured by Google Analytics.
Add in the 756,000 views of my Youtube and Yahoo video channels and another 350,000 from my other assorted websites and that is over 3 million visits to my sites.
Regardless of what anyone says I consider that a major coup in self promotion from a relatively unknown actor and it has been worth it and it is taking me places.... |

Well it has rolled around again - all christians go out now and in a shopping frenzy reminiscent of berserker Vikings discovering unprotected church gold on the shores of England, celebrate by going out to the Xmas sales with mobs of other mind controlled shopping zombies and putting yourself in credit card debt to 'prove' you love your family.... because that is what the TV tells you to do. Here is a different take on Christmas from Rob Sheridan:
Awesome. Enjoy your friends and the things that are important to your life. Stampedes and fist fights over "sale" items is a F%^&*ing ridiculous way to celebrate friends and family. I have been accused of being cynical - here is last Christmas , and the one before . Not really much to get excited about is it when you look at the reality. |

I have just had word that HBO's upcoming new Drama/Fantasy series "A Game of Thrones" will be airing in Australia, hopefully in July 2011 on SHOWCASE for Foxtel and Austar. Holy *&%. That is something I was not expecting, and definitely not so soon. NOW I will finally have to get Australian media coverage. |

A BIG Audition? Yes.... but I can't tell you about it so I'll do what I usually do and talk about the process involved and my personal experiences. In this case I have had a big do not talk about this slapped down on me (probably everyone involved actually) so I won't even be leaving any clues. First up Dysentery. Lovely little thing it is, and an old friend. Problem is that this time I had something to do, actually something important to do, with a real deadline... |

HBO released a 10 minute "making of" The Game of Thrones (GoT) called Inside Game of Thrones, you can view the entire video over at the Winter Is Coming Fansite , or over here on Youtube. I feature very briefly in this.
Gregor "the Mountain" Clegane Is An Angry ManIn the "GoT "The Artisans" there is an interview with Tommy Dunne (click to watch) , the Weapons Master on GoT. Tommy specifical mentions me as an example of a sword being specially made for such a big character, it is also an interesting look at what actually needs to be done in regards to the weapons. There will be as steel sword for instance, an aluminium one, maybe a carbon one, and a CGI version all of the same weapon, often several copies to cover accidents. A lot more work and equipment to lug around than you'd think. Thirdly in GoT news there was the third teaser released recently too... again over at Winter is Coming or again over at Youtube . More screencaps and some interesting news inside.... |

Those of you who know me already know that I specialise in action movies, as a stunt actor - meaning I do as many of my own stunts as possible. This mainly concerns the fight scenes I am employed to do. Now having a fight on film is much different to street or ring fighting but fighting as a main character with an established background, past and personality adds even more complexity to the mix, both to the action sequence and the acting itself.... |

Adidas, the HUGE name in sports clothing and footwear now sponsor not ony RUN DMC but Conan Stevens too (though I don't get millions in cash and I haven't written a hit song about my shoes either). As you may notice there has been a recent addition to the layout of my website, up there on the top right, just below the search box is a new "Sponsored By" section to acknowledge those who believe in me and are helping me achieve.... |

Besides the fact they are rebelling against the parents established values, same as youth of every generation, todays "Heroes" and "Role Models" are products of entrenched profit driven industries that portray the real world as a fantasy without effort. These unrealistic expectations and non-sustainable role models are the real problems with todays youth. Let me explain... |

I auditioned for roles in two movies over a week ago, I am now awaiting a response. I am fairly confident that I will get roles in both movies, the question is whether it will be the roles I am interested in. I have been contacted by a Director in Australia and might be up for a slasher film later this year. I have been contacted by a Producer in Hong Kong and might be in a fight film early next year. It looks highly likely that I will be on the front cover of a well known International brand magazine soon. It seems the second part to hugely successful "The Hangover" might be filming in Thailand , that'd be a great movie to get into.

How do I become an actor is a question I am frequently asked by (seemingly) younger people who email me, despite that fact that my email form states that I do not answer these sorts of questions as it all comes down to the individual finding what works for him. Following is a conversation I had on Facebook with Robin, it reads as a good interview actually and I cover a lot of the points that you'd needif you wanted to know how to become an actor.

For those of you who don't know I am back in Thailand after filming my initial scenes in the upcoming HBO TV series "A Game Of Thrones" set in the mythical land of Westeros as "The Mountain" Ser Gregor Clegane. So I have had my most recent 15 minutes of fame - how has it changed my life? What is different now that I am home? What is life like as an International star? |

My manager has contacted me with another possible role filming in Thailand soon. At this point I cannot say anymore than this but it would be good for my acting scope to appear in this movie (ie I won't be chopping heads off or smashing people into the ground for a change).
At this point in time we'll just hav e to wait and see if it comes off. If I can land a role in this and Scorpion King 3 I will be most happy. * It was Hangover 2 and they brought someone in from the US instead.

A quick photo from Finn Jones , who will play Ser Loras "The Knight Of Flowers" in HBO's upcoming series A Game Of Thrones. Here we are riding down a country laneway in the English countryside:
"The Mountain That Rides"Thanks to Finn for uploading the photo and allowing me to steal it, saves me from bluetoothing it on Friday, and thanks to Winter Is Coming for alerting me that he'd already put the photo online. |

Well, almost, but not quite. In fact there are Ser Gregor Clegane Action Pewter Miniatures, but being pewter and about 32mm (1 & 1/ 5 inch) tall there isn't too much action either.
Ser Gregor Clegane Fighting The Red Viper (Book 3) So OK, it's not Conan Stevens and it's not action and it's a miniature - but since when did truth get in the way of a good fantasy story? Why am I talking about these in the first place? This is the interesting bit George R.R. Martin, the author of the Game Of Throne book series that HBO has license personally wrote me an email today.... Oh yes, and a little about my horse riding training... |

I have now been in Belfast for 4 days, most of the time sitting in my hotel room, trying to work on my new book (yes I know I was supposed to finish it already, but there were some other issues that took priority ). The incredible life of an actor includes me going to the gym and then sitting in front of my laptop eating a can of baked beans and a tin of sardines ( combined 40g protein, 38g carbs and some good fish oils), or chicken sandwiches or instant noodles with a tin of tuna mixed in, or fruit and low fat natural yoghurt, or oatmeal and skim milk, you get the picture. I'm in a nice hotel, I've got a daily food allowance, I'm getting paid - why the heck am I eating like a self supporting University student? For more on meeting Jason Momoa and Rory McCann and Gregors armour read on...

AWESOME NEWS! Hot on the heels of my recent signing with HBO as Gregor Clegane this will open the way to negotiations to getting into the Scorpion King 3, AND most importantly the possibility of being hired as main cast - as in hired from L.A. Exactly what does this mean? |

I fly to Belfast, Ireland tonight to start work with HBO's new TV series Game Of Thrones as Ser Gregor Clegane. I have some armour fittings, sword training and horse riding lessons (it's been a long time since I rode last) to do before my filming starts. Better go and pack my bag, lucky I am rather experienced at International travel now and it'll take me about 30 minutes, then to go get all my paperwork in order and try to relax a little. |

Bangkok Adrenaline the movie I wrote the script for and co-starred in gets US DVD/BlueRay release on the 12th October 2010, just a few weeks away. For me this will be interesting to see how much interest is generated within the US, obviously because this is the primary film market in the world..... |

(*** I have not yet signed the contract so nothing is 100% certain until then but we have a good relationship with the Casting and Production houses I am happy to be working with professionals on a professional Western shoot again. Production has been rather accomodating and flexible which has been an added bonus and makes me happy to be working with them ***) Now signed!
Ser Gregor Clegane, "The Mountain That Rides" - the character for the upcoming HBO TV series that I originally wrote about waayyyy back in March 2007 has now been cast. And it's me! I am to play Ser Gregor Clegane, "the baddest knight in a realm full of bad asses". This is BIG news for my career, and next time some 2 bit Australian agent or casting agency looks at me with disdain and says that my CV contains "only" Asian movie credits and apparently not worth as much as a no pay, no budget Australian period piece that might show on regional TV networks to a huge Australia audience of 19 million potential (compared to the "only" 2.5 Billion people in the Asian market) Anyway I digress. This credit as will validate my acting career in a major US TV series as Gregor Clegane is a major character. No walk on big angry bad guy role here. Thank God... and my preparations... and the fans. The credit of working as Gregor Clegane with a big reputable company like HBO on a TV series that has such a promising production crew line up that it is as guaranteed as it is possible to get in becoming a hit TV show..... |

I need help contacting any Australian media outlet that would be interested in running an article/interview with me. I am thinking FHM, Playboy or Penthouse or any of the other men's magazines would be ideal publications.
If you know anyone in the Australian media I would VERY much appreciate any help getting into the mainstream media. This will boost my website traffic, and the advertising revenue that I get from this site is what I currently live off (barely). I would also be very interested in any sponsorship deals. Thankyou in advance, Conan. |
